Fly Me to the Moon

RETURN TO GALLERY HOMEPAGE

In the late 1990s, NASA and Lockheed Martin spent a couple of billion dollars on the X33, a half-scale "technology demonstrator" of a fully reusable launch vehicle (RLV) that was intended to make access to space both routine and relatively low cost. With this work as an inspiration I created my own RLV flyer, which is used as part of the current logo for this site, as well as being showcased in the above image of a future "motorshow" for personal reusable spacecraft.

To include multiple angles of the vehicle in the image I added the three video displays, which in theory are playing back a TV advert for the "Nano" RLV. Both the main and video display images were created as single-pass renders in trueSpace, though with the woman in the video images crafted in Poser 4, and the explosion a stock-shot element from EyeWire. The final image was mastered at 3000x2000 pixels for print reproduction.
